summer opportunities YOUTH FOR UNDERSTANDING USA SUMMER 2008 SUMMER AND FULL YEAR STUDY ABROAD PROGRAMS Students ages 15 - 19 years old from around the world live with a volunteer host family and immerse themselves in the local culture. They learn about another culture and language, gain perspective on the world, and develop a stronger sense of self. Programs are available for a year (10-11 months), a semester (4-6 months), or the summer (3-8 weeks). 35 countries participate in the program including Japan, China, Finland, and Germany. Participants in the year or semester program attend school and may choose a focus from: academic, arts and music, business, vocational, or technical.
