| Dual enrolled CTE students can
receive college credit for courses taken in their high school setting.
Courses are offered at a reduced rate, and all credits received
are transferrable to Maricopa Community Colleges, and, in some
cases, to Arizona universities. Students taking the dual enrolled
courses may find the transition from high school to college to
be much smoother, and may desire to continue on the college path.
Not all CTE courses are dual enrolled. Students must check with
their instructors to see if this opportunity is availablePlease
note that all of the Career & Technical Education (CTE) classes
are not offered at every district high school. Students and parents
should check in the current Graduation & Registration guide
or check with your guidance counselor. |

Students in the middle school can take a variety
of electives in order to get a head start on high school CTE courses.
Courses will vary by school, but some of the more common ones are
Computer Applications, Gen-Yes, Digital Media, Culinary, Video
Production, and the new Paxton Patterson Tech Lab. This Tech Lab
is gradually being implemented in all the middle schools and is
a computer based, hands-on lab. Students rotate through the different
modules such as Flight Technology, Robotics, Computer Graphics
and Animation, Alternative Energy, Forensic Science and Environment
and Ecology to name a few. The modules available vary by school.
The program includes a Career Exploration component and each module
has a writing segment that uses the AIMS format. This class is
aligned with the AZ Science Standards.
