Standards Based Reporting (SBR)

Grades K-6
The schools in the Paradise Valley School District have implemented a progress report that provides information about what your child knows, understands, and can do. This report is available each quarter and is the result of work done by a committee of parents, teachers and administrators to communicate about how students are achieving on standards. The progress report is aligned with the Arizona Academic Standards and has been designed to give the maximum amount of information in a clear format. In addition to letter grades, the form reports how well students are meeting state standards.

FAQs
about SBR

Why is it important to know about progress on the Arizona Academic Standards?

The Arizona Academic Standards are the standards that indicate what students should know and be able to do when they take the AIMS assessment at grades 3-6. Our school district wants to make every effort possible to ensure that all of our students are successful when they take these tests. One way to further that success is to provide parents ongoing information about student progress on these standards.

Why are the standards graded or measured on the progress report?
Our school district has joined hundreds of other districts nationwide that are working to align instruction, assessment and reporting. We are still giving you the same grading information that we have given in the past; you are now receiving more information on meeting Arizona standards.

How are the standards graded or measured on the progress report?
The state and district has established standards for each grade level. The standards measurement indicator of meets, approaches or falls below are assessed by the classroom teacher according to those grade level standards. It is important that you, your child, and the teacher work together to help your child meet the standards. As a district, we want all students to strive for excellence. Excellence in standards will be reflected in either the academic grade, comment section and/or conferences with the teacher.

What else is on this progress report?
Information continues to be given about student conduct and attendance each grading period. As in the past, effort, study skills and citizenship continue to be important and will be evaluated with the indicated effort key. The number of days absent and/or tardy should also be examined by parents because attendance directly impacts students’ success.

What if I still have questions?
This is meant to be a brief overview of the progress report. If you have any additional questions about your child’s progress, how it is measured, or how you should interpret the report card, consult your child’s teacher.
