Reading: The Reading in this class focuses on building decoding skills using the Wilson Reading Program. The students are assessed to determine the appropriate steps for instruction and are placed on the steps aligned with their needs. Although most of the work is completed in class,  once students have completed steps, the materials will be sent home for further practice.

        In addition we teach metacognitive reading strategies to aid in oral and reading        comprehension, the Scholastic Read About Program, Scholastic XL, Rewards, and   various novels.

     Writing: Students will progress from writing simple sentences to                           complex sentences; from paragraphs to series of paragraphs.
Since reading and spelling are linked, spelling will be considered in line with the reading program.
