Understand vocabulary through a variety of methods
Practice and apply parts of speech
Practice and use Cornell Notes
LITERATURE:
Countries Around the World- Italy, France, Germany, Scotland
VOCABULARY:
Vocabulary words from each country's informative article.
WRITING:
Answer all questions in complete sentences.
GRAMMAR:
Practice and use correct grammar and punctuation in writing assignments.
NOTES:
History of the English Language-Latin and Greek terms
HOMEWORK:
NO HOMEWORK will be assigned unless work is not finished in class.
LANGUAGE ARTS- 8th GRADE OVERVIEW:
Language Arts focuses on vocabulary, reading comprehension, word study and novels, writing, grammar and spelling. The following is a list of textbooks, novels and programs that may be used during the year to accomplish our goals:
~Metacognition Strategies for comprehension and word study
~The Language of Literature textbook
~Six-Way Paragraphs material
~Novels: "Stargirl", "Flowers for Algernon", " Devil's Arithmetic", "The Outsiders"
~Videos or DVDs on specific novels that are read in class for comparing and contrasting information.
~6 Traits Writing
~Cornell Notes
~Color coded grammar review
~History of English Language Review
~Study Island
~Library Skills
~Differentiated Instruction
Class work is individually monitored and differentiated instruction is used, so that all students have the opportunity to be successful.
Extension activities are planned for stories and novels that will incorporate research skills and creative projects.
Homework:
HOMEWORK IS NOT GIVEN UNLESS WORK IS NOT COMPLETED IN CLASS.
Students will have extension activities and projects that will be completed in class. Students will have a vocabulary packet that they complete every other week. They will have time, in class, to practice and study their vocabulary words.
Grades will be posted on POGB weekly.
It is the responsibility of the student to complete and turn in any missing assignments.
