Purpose:

The purpose of this web page is to provide a basic description of Ms. Crawford’s SEI classes as well as up to date information about class and homework assignments, and expectations.

Beginning ESL

and

Intermediate ESL

We will be using High Point curriculum as well as Write from the Beginning to increase English skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

In addition, we will use Accelerated Reader.  This program makes reading practice more effective and will build a lifelong love of reading and learning.  This is being accomplished by a variety of reading activities including read to, read with, and independent reading.  The students are assessed using computerized quizzes that measure comprehension and vocabulary.

Intermediate ESL Social Studies

        The main scope of this social studies class is United States history from 1783 to 1918.  Three major goals are integrated into the program:

        1.  To develop the student's knowledge of United States history and geography and extend the student's understanding of the importance of ideas and beliefs in shaping society.

        2.  To develop the student's understanding of democratic and civic values.

        3.  To develop the student's critical thinking skills, participation skills, and basic study skills.
