SEVENTH GRADE LANGUAGE ARTS
KAREN BAKER - DEC. 2008

LITERATURE:  We will be reading the play "A Christmas Carol."  Students will be learning the elements of a play and acting it out.

SPELLING AND VOCABULARY:  Spelling words for this month will be introduced at the beginning of each week. Students are responsible for defining the word, using it in a semantic web along with several other spelling activities. Spelling homework is due on Friday at the start of class. Spelling/vocabulary tests will be given on Friday as well.

HISTORY OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE:  This month students will be taking Cornell Notes as they learn the history behind our language.  Please check your child's interactive notebook to find our more information on what we are learning.  I will be checking notebooks at random to make sure all students are up to date with their notes.  These assignments will all be completed in class.

GRAMMAR:   We will be reviewing the parts of speech and incorporating Multisensory Grammar.  Students will color code the parts of speech.  For example:  Nouns will be color coded yellow.  Muti-sensory Grammar assignments will be graded daily in class, therefore there will be no homework.

STUDY ISLAND:  Students will be taken to the computer lab to work on Study Island each Tuesday.  It is also recommended that students work on Study Island at home at least once a week for 45 minutes.

BOOK PROJECTS:  There will be no book projects due for the month of Dec.

NOTE:  Please check your child's  planner and Power School for an update of assignment due dates and grades.  If you have any questions feel free to call me at 602-449-5300, or email me at kbaker@pvschools.net.
