Reading at Home:
Reading at home is important. Reading teaches children about things they are curious about and makes them want to learn more. Good readers do better in school. There are many things you can do at home to help your children become good readers.
** Read out loud to your children. Reading is a good way to bring the family together. Many parents read to their children at bedtime.
** Read in whatever language you use at home.
** Hold what you read so that children can see it.
** Cut back on how much television your children watch. Have them spend more time reading. Let them see you reading. This shows that you value reading and enjoy it.
** Offer your children different kinds of things to read.
** Tell your children stories about your family. Have them make up stories to tell you.
** Ask older children to read to their younger brothers and sisters. This will give them practice.
** Take your children to the public library.
You can inspire your children to love reading. That is a gift that will last a lifetime.
